Chad Paranto. He’s big. He’s strong. He can throw a baseball through a wall. Trouble is, he can’t throw it past a lot of batters.

Paranto is a typical mediocre reliever. One could get a little excited about his upside if he were 24 or 24, but he’ll be 27 in mid-season 2002.

There’s really not a lot to say about his season. Like a lot of guys in their first trip to The Show, his best month was his first (4.32 ERA), and it was all downhill from there.

He gives up too many hits, he walks too many batters, and for a big fireballing guy, he doesn’t strike out a lot of guys. Batters hit .289 off of him, and slugged .482. Those are numbers that usually lead to the minors, and so it did.

Paranto was picked up in the off-season by the Indians. He’ll join Brady Anderson in the Tribe’s attempt to remain competitive in 2002.

NOTE: Paranto, in addition to not being very good, was also unlucky. He allowed nine unearned runs in only 27 innings of work.
