A-Rod Considers Leaving
New Yankees' Star Concerned Over Direction of Team, Ponders Future In a startling interview granted exclusively to Birds in the Belfry following yesterday's 8-3 loss to the Devil Rays, Yankee Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez claims he may have accomplished all he can in New York, and that it would be "better for all concerned" if he moved on to another team. "I entered into this trade with the greatest of intentions," said the star, as he slipped into an Armani jacket and adjusted his Rolex. "I really intended to give the Yankees my best shot, and I did. I mean, the first couple of innings were all right, but then, I didn't see the team improving from that point forward. By the sixth inning, I was having some serious doubts about my ability to help this team go where it needs to go. When Joe Torre came out for the pitching change, I found myself thinking about a team like, oh, the Devil Rays. "After all, I've worked with Piniella before. And, they do have the names on the back of their uniforms. Did you notice that we don't have that in New York? I had never noticed that before; I was pretty surprised. I'm not really sure I like that. And, if you didn't notice, I really don't like playing third. I think they would let me play shortstop in Tampa. Besides, they did look pretty up-and-coming. And they have Zimmer over there; I was so looking forward to working with him. "I'm just tired of all the losing, you know? I mean, is it too much to ask, to have a winning season, and not be a laughingstock, to win a World Series or three? I'm really sick of being in last place. I'm not saying that I'm unhappy to be in New York, but if Mr. Steinbrenner thinks that the organization could be better off without my participation, I'd be willing to listen to anything he has to say." |
